Yeonjin As Artist.

Yeonjin Hur is an illustrator that enjoys using watercolor, gouache, ink, and digital mediums to portray the beauty of nature and people. Her naturalist art style consists of a muted color palette, warm tones, and uncluttered composition. Especially, in her watercolor pieces, they are the result of positive self-control. She limits herself from overworking on a painting and making it simple but containing all the necessities. She considers her painting process as a type of meditation, which reflects her values well. When it is enough, she releases the obsession towards perfection and moves on. The main subjects of her illustrations are usually nature and people. She captures outdoor scenery and subjects with warm sunlight while emphasizing the shapes, colors, and details.

Yeonjin’s love for nature is influenced by her grandparents who are Buddhist farmers. They believed that people are meant to harmonize with nature and coexist with other lifeforms. They also thought the more natural things are, the better it is. For instance, they believed in reincarnation and even fruit trees have a great purpose in life. Her grandparents taught her how to be grateful. Since she was raised by her grandparents, she experienced assisting them with farming and harvesting produce. This made Yeonjin fascinated with nature even more to this day since she now lives in an urban area, and it is hard to see nature unless she plans a special trip. Therefore, she captures nature in her painting because of those values and beliefs.
